One down many more to go

Today went much better then I expected!  We spent the morning just relaxing and then running a couple of errands before we headed to the hospital.  Fionn has been talking about going to see his doctor all week.  He told all of his little daycare friends he was going to get his feet fixed.  We had to stop in to his daycare this to get some papers and his friends all were so excited to see him, even though they saw him yesterday, and he got hugs from everyone!

The casting happened without any problems or complaints from Fionn.  In fact I don't even think he noticed what was happening since he was too busy watching cartoons while the doctor and nurses worked on his feet.  Only once did he flinch when they moved his right foot.  The right foot is the one with more problems and so probably a little stiffer then the other.

I thought he was going to get casts like when he was a baby, the kind that reach up to his hips but these stopped bellow the knees and they informed us that with special shoes he would still be able to walk!!!  I'm thrilled!!  But quite honestly I thought this was going to be way more tough then it has been.  But let's not get ahead of ourselves, this is still only day one.  I'm a little worried about tonight.  I think it will dawn on him when its bedtime.  I'm not hoping for it but I half expect to have a rough night.  Knock on wood!

After the casting, which was more or less quick and painless, we went to the orthopedic store to get these "special cast shoes"  They look awful but if he can walk then I'm not complaining!!  His first two steps were wobbly but he was literally running around the store in no time.  They lady trying on shoes beside us couldn't get over how amazing he was! One of the nurses at the hospital said we could also get croc type shoes and slice off the end or cut slits in the side to fit better.  As long as he wasn't walking on the casts themselves since they would it wear out in no time and it will be really slippery.

After that we went for a much deserved ice cream!  And once again, my child never ceases to amazing me!  He is truly my hero!  I do not know how he does all this and continues with his day.  I'm exhausted just stressing out over all this.  I went to bed at 9:30pm last night!  And I'll probably be back in bed around that time tonight.  But I'm happy.  I'm happy with how things went.  I happy that he can still walk.  I'm happy all together.  Hopefully this whole process is as quick and painless as today was.  I am so proud of my big boy!!

Tomorrow morning we go to the Sugar Shack where they make maple syrup!!  I've been craving maple anything for a while now!!  And going to the sugar shack is one of my favorite spring activities!  There is usually wagon rides and fun activities for kids so it should be a good day. I'm excited!

Night before casting, playing at the park and loving every minute!
