Wheelchair? More like super cool toy!

Yesterday we went to pick up Fionn's wheelchair.  When we got to the store Fionn was running all over the place checking out all the 'cool' things like wheelchairs, bathroom aids, hospital beds, special lazy boys, AND a van.  Yep, there was an actual van in the shop.  So here I am getting this wheelchair for him and he's running around the place.  Talk about confusing for the clerks.  I think they thought I was nuts getting this active kid a wheelchair.  Little did they know what we're about to embark on.  So anyways the lady brings out the wheelchair and starts to show me how to fold it, how to take off the legs for easier transport, how to recline the back, and all that jazz.  All Fionn wanted to do was get in it.  So then she started to note any imperfections, or scratches because it's a rental and they need to know what is my fault and what was already there when we got it.  During this time Fionn gets in the wheelchair and, no word of a lie, started to wheel HIMSELF!  I swear to god no one showed him how to do that.  I don't think he's ever seen anyone wheel themselves around either.  But he reached down and grabbed the wheels and pushed.  He was going forward and backwards and turning.  This kid continues to amaze me every single day!  Another lady who was in there getting something on her wheelchair fixed couldn't stop laughing and kept saying how smart he was.  I'm truly thankful that this is only temporary, the wheelchair that is.

So next came the time to get it into the car.  We have an old 2 door car.  I didn't think the wheelchair was going to be as big as it was.  It didn't fit in the trunk.  I couldn't get it in the back seat.  I ended up reclining the front passenger seat and sitting it there.  It was taking up a large part of the car, as in the front, the back, slightly on my lap.  So needless to say we won't be commuting with it in this car.  If we need to go anywhere we will have to beg and bribe my mom and her larger vehicle.

I wanted to get the wheelchair early but I didn't think it would have been this quick of a process.  I mean I only called 3 days ago and now it's sitting in our living room.  But at least that's one thing to check off my list.  Now I'm working on cleaning and organizing which is a never ending story in itself.  I need to go get our frequent user parking pass for the hospital since our last one ran out.  Parking is ridiculous.  I swear it seems that no matter how long we're there, short or long, we always seem to get the maximum parking fee of $13.  Every time!  Thirteen dollars might not seem like much but it sure adds up and I can think of many other things I would rather spend that thirteen dollars on.

2 weeks never seemed so far away and yet so fast approaching. Then its on to 3 weeks of weekly casting.  One step at a time.  We'll get through this.
